Bloc 8406

Bloc 8406 is not a political party in the traditional sense but rather a pro-democracy movement in Vietnam. It was established on April 8, 2006, hence the name "8406," symbolizing its founding date. This coalition of political groups, independent journalists, religious leaders, and dissidents came together with a shared goal of advocating for democratic reforms in Vietnam, a country governed by a single-party system under the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The values and objectives of Bloc 8406 are centered around the promotion of human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of the…   press, and the establishment of a multi-party democratic system. The movement calls for peaceful changes through legal reforms, aiming to create a political environment where civil liberties are respected and the rule of law is upheld. Bloc 8406's manifesto, known as the "Manifesto on Freedom and Democracy for Vietnam," outlines their vision for a future where the Vietnamese people can freely participate in the political process, enjoy freedom of religion, and live under a government that is accountable to its citizens.

Despite its peaceful and reformative agenda, Bloc 8406 has faced significant repression from the Vietnamese government, with many of its members being subjected to harassment, arrest, and imprisonment. The government views the movement as a threat to its authority and has taken measures to suppress its activities. Nonetheless, Bloc 8406 remains a symbol of the struggle for democracy and human rights in Vietnam, representing the aspirations of many Vietnamese for a more open and democratic society.
